Ms. Rebecca Roland
I am thrilled to be a part of the Rockledge staff this school
year. I have been a Professional School Counselor for the past 6 years and
was previously a classroom teacher. I am looking forward to getting to know
the school community and working with your children. I will be implementing
a comprehensive school counseling program to help all students develop
skills in the areas of personal/social growth, educational planning, and
career and vocational development.
Classroom Guidance: I will be teaching guidance
lessons to each class every 3 weeks. The classes will focus on promoting
positive behaviors, career development, and good character.
Individual Counseling: I am available to meet with
students on an individual basis. Reasons that children may want to meet
with me could include problems at home, difficulty with school work, trouble
getting along with friends, someone has hurt them, difficulty with
transitions, being scared or worried about something, and anything else you
think I might be able to assist your child with.
Small Group Counseling: Small groups will have
approximately 6-8 students and meet for 6 sessions. Topics may include
grief, anger management, and study skills. Students will meet with other
students who share similar concerns which will enable them to understand
they are not alone and can provide one another with support.
G.O.L.D. Committee: I will be working with a group
of students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills. These
students will work on Red Ribbon Week activities, fund raisers, Peace
Days/Peace Activities, and an environmental project. Students who choose to
participate must be in 5th grade, demonstrate leadership ability
and submit an application.
Peer Mediation: Peer Mediation
is
both a program and a process
where students of the same age-group facilitate resolving
disputes between two people or small groups. This process has proven
effective in schools around the United States, changing the way students
understand and resolve conflict in their lives. Changes include improved
self-esteem, listening and critical thinking skills, and school climate for
learning, as well as reduced disciplinary actions and less fights. These
skills are transferable outside of the classroom
Mentoring Program: We are planning to implement a
mentoring program this year. We would like to have volunteers come into the
school and meet with selected students on a weekly basis. The mentors will
serve as positive role models and help to guide students in the direction of
achieving academic success. Please contact me if you are willing to
volunteer some time to mentor a child.
Personal Education Plans: Each year the county is
requiring all students in grades 1 and 4 to complete a Personal Education
Plan. The plan will have the children identify their academic and career
goals. Parents of students in 1st and 4th grades will
receive more information about the plans during the school year.
