French
Immersion Program
Mdme.
Leila Bogoreh - French Immersion Coordinator
The
French Immersion program offers students the opportunity to "immerse"
themselves in the spoken language of French, one of the most useful of
the modern world languages.
Students
begin with a full-day kindergarten and are taught entirely in French by
a bilingual teacher. As students advance from grade to grade, math, reading
, language arts, social studies and science are taught in French.
Additionally,
in grades 2-6, Language Arts is incorporated into the curriculum and taught
in English, with French Language Arts taught in French.
French
Immersion is designed to be a K-12 Program. Children starting the program
in kindergarten can acquire a fluency in French by the third grade and
be bilingual at the end of grade 6.
Our
goal at Shadyside Elementary School is to insure our students academic
success by challenging them daily to reach their full academic potential.
French Immersion students are encouraged to express their ideas clearly
in French in a variety of of oral contexts and to apply active listening
skills to the analysis and evaluation of other ideas.
