The Teachers of the 8th grade team, Team Accomplished, are looking forward to learning and growing as teachers in order to be the best educators for all our students. "We are excited to work with students and coworkers here at Walker Mill Middle to achieve our goal." The Accomplished teachers are looking forward to meeting all of the students and building strong relationships. Most importantly they are looking forward to having a good time and academic success this year.

This team's language arts teachers are focusing on improving reading and writing skills through creative as well as informative writing tasks. Students are encouraged to expand their minds through daily readings. They explore new experiences, new places, fantasies, and real life situations through reading novels of their choice. Each Accomplished team language arts class is equipped with a classroom library. Students will work throughout the year to master formal writing techniques that culminate in special projects and research papers. Ms. Blackmon and Mr. Miller are excited about the possibilities that they can unlock in their students.

The Math teachers integrate technology through the use of scientific calculators, graphing calculators, and computers. Each student is required to have a scientific calculator and use it as a tool to enhance the mathematical experience. The Accomplished team's math teachers provide instruction for using the TI-82 graphing calculators and integrate them throughout the math curriculum. Mobil computers are available for math classrooms. Students may work individually, in groups, or as partners on math assignments or projects that enrich the instructional program. Students use a variety of problem-solving strategies as the experience math as an "applied life skill," not simply mini skills to be learned and never revisited.

Social studies teachers help students explore our nation's development. Students begin with investigations of the European exploration and settlement of North America. Teachers help their students navigate through learning about the American colonial era up through the American Civil War and Reconstruction.

Throughout the school year, students participate in educational field trips that enhance the interdisciplinary curriculum of the Accomplished team's teachers. Students have experienced the history of Gettysburg and other educational attractions. They had an opportunity to visit traditionally African American colleges along the East Coast. Recently, they attended the annual Renaissance Festival in Annapolis.
